Analysis of access to STEM education in rural areas of Latin America: implications for sustainable social and economic development

Este estudio investiga el acceso a la educación en ciencia, tecnología, ingeniería y matemáticas (STEM) en zonas rurales de América Latina y sus implicaciones para el desarrollo social y económico. Se emplea un enfoque cualitativo que incluye encuestas y entrevistas con educadores, estudiantes y líderes comunitarios en diversas localidades. Los hallazgos revelan que la falta de infraestructura adecuada, la escasez de recursos educativos y la limitada capacitación de los docentes restringen el acceso a una educación de calidad en estos campos. Además, se identifican brechas significativas en la participación de niñas y jóvenes en programas STEM, lo que perpetúa la desigualdad de género en disciplinas científicas y tecnológicas. Las entrevistas indican que la desmotivación y los estereotipos de género afectan negativamente la elección de carreras en estas áreas, limitando el potencial de desarrollo personal y comunitario. Las conclusiones destacan la necesidad urgente de implementar políticas educativas inclusivas que promuevan la formación continua de docentes y el desarrollo de recursos didácticos adaptados a contextos locales. Asimismo, se sugiere fomentar alianzas efectivas entre escuelas, comunidades y el sector privado para mejorar el acceso a tecnologías y herramientas educativas.Las implicancias de este estudio subrayan la importancia de invertir en educación STEM para mejorar la competitividad económica de las regiones rurales y fomentar el empoderamiento de comunidades a través del conocimiento científico. Este enfoque no solo beneficiará a los individuos, sino que también contribuirá al desarrollo sostenible y equitativo de América Latina, facilitando una mejor integración de estas comunidades en el entorno global.
